Outlaw grapplers dealing with injury, illness

The Yuma High School boys wrestling team has been short-handed recently.

The team has been dealing with sickness and injuries. This past Tuesday’s home dual against Highland was canceled, with hopes of it being rescheduled earlier next week.

Yuma travels to Haxtun today, January 25, for a dual with Sedgwick County/Fleming, then will competed in the McCook Duals in Nebraska on Friday.

“We have a little improving to do before regional comes along,” coach Presley Papachek said.

The Outlaws hosted Lamar and County Line for duals last Thursday in The Pit. They lost to Lamar 59-10 and to County Line 48-18. Tyson Hanson and Daden Beauprez each had a win by fall.

They then went to the Northglenn Norse Invitational on Saturday, finishing last in the 21-team field with 13 points. Windsor won the team title with 249.

“It was a tough tournament and some of our best guys were out, but we marched on,” Papachek said.

Yuma did not have any placers, but Deacon Brown went 3-2 at 215 pounds. He had two wins by fall, and his third win was by a 15-5 major decision. Hanson had one win by fall at 165, Dallas Brunk one win by fall at 138, Cooper Blach a win by decision, 4-2, at 106. Augi Montes de Oca competed at 120, Ethan Nadow at 132, and Beauprez at 175.
