Outlaw track piling up the first

Yuma High School’s track and field teams have an Easter weekend trip west on Saturday.

The Outlaws will be at the Broncos Stampede at Platte Valley High School in Kersey for their first competition in more than a week.

Yuma’s athletes enjoyed a good showing on a beautiful April day, last Thursday in the Wray Dick Evans Invitational. There were not any team scores available, just like the Yuma Bill Kalb Invitational earlier last week.

Both Yuma teams would have finished high in the standings.

The girls team keeps rolling through relays, winning three of them in Wray.

The 4-by-100 foursome of Chloe Smith, Carolina Ross, Layla Glanz and Daphani Allen won with a time of 51.89 seconds. Ross, Glanz, Emory McClaran and Allen won the 4-by-200 in 1:51.45. The 4-by-400 team of Ross, McClaran, Allen and Glanz took first in 4:22.02. Plus, the 4-by-800 team of Kenya Arvizo, Lindsey Hermosillo, Achtonn Monk and Dayana Villalobos placed fifth in 13:19.83.

Another first came in the pole vault as Smith cleared 9-4 to take the top prize. Braylynn Armstrong went 7-10 for eighth.
