Yuma High School’s boys wrestling team finally might be at full strength for the regular-season finale.
The Outlaws host The Big O Duals on Saturday before preparing for regional. Coach Presley Papachek said he thinks all 10 grapplers will be available for season-ending event, after having only five competing at the McCook Duals last Friday, thanks to injuries and illness.
The Big O Duals is named in honor of the late Terry Oestman, a long-time YHS assistant coach and a great in high school at Wray. A total of six teams will compete. Joining Wray will be Dayspring Christian Academy, Holyoke, University, Sedgwick County/Fleming and Chatfield.
Mats will be set up in both gyms at YHS with the action beginning at 10 a.m. All the teams will wrestle each other in duals, with the next one beginning about each hour.
Not surprisingly, the Outlaws struggled in the duals at McCook last Friday with only five wrestlers competing.
They had one on the mat in five duals along with four wins by forfeit. It began with an 81-0 loss to North Platte. Deacon Brown earned a win by fall at 285 pounds in a 60-6 loss to Ogallala. Esteban Gonzalez got a forfeit win in a 69-6 loss to Gothenburg. Blake Stivers and Cooper Blach each got a forfeit in in a 60-12 loss to McCook. Blach got a forfeit win in a 72-6 loss to Alliance. Ethan Nadow also wrestled for Yuma.
