Yuma High School’s girls wrestling team opens the 2024-25 season this week.
Coach Brandon Newton’s squad enters the new campaign ranked No. 8 in the new Class 4A, based on the coaches’ preseason rankings released on CHSAANow.com earlier this week. Pueblo Central is ranked No. 1.
The Outlaws have a dual at Wray today, December 5, at 5:30 p.m. However, Newton said there likely will not be many matches as Wray is low on numbers. Yuma has 11 on the team this week.
They all should get action Saturday at the Arapahoe Invitational.
“I think we’re looking good,” Newton said. “We hit the ground running because have wrestled before, so we have been able to do a lot of conditioning and technique.”
The Outlaws will have at least three open weights, but will compete at all the others.
Camila Sanchez is back to wrestle at 100 pounds, while Taelynn Robinson is at 105, Chloe Smith 110, Heidi Vargas 115, Kenya Arvizo 125, Kaydence Hansen 130, Kinslee Brandon 135, Sierra Brown 155, Gese Sanchez 190 and Danika Dischner 235.
