Rebecca Jean Kahrs 1949-2024

Rebecca Jean Kahrs, longtime area resident, went to heaven November 19, 2024 at Sterling Regional Medical Center. She was born December 12, 1949 in Sterling to Walter and Bernice (Klein) Kahrs and baptized in Yuma at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was later confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Sterling.

Becky joined the ECSDD family in September of 1978 where she was the light in the room at every party, the first smile you’d see when you visited Kelandy, and a beloved friend to all ever since. She would never turn down the chance to bring joy to anyone whether a new acquaintance, a dear friend, or a complete stranger. There will never be a day that they do not miss the warmth and love she has brought to their home. She had a passion for working at the Kelandy Center and would get very upset if anything prevented her from going.

Becky enjoyed many different activities and especially loved bowling, dancing, singing and collecting dolls (her babies!). She received many medals through participation in Special Olympics and loved attending workshop dances and special prom events. She also enjoyed going on family vacations and had a very adventurous spirit! She got to take two helicopter tours and wanted to go up in a hot air balloon. She loved eating good meals, especially prime rib, virgin margaritas and anything spicy! She also loved her chocolate and always had a secret stash. She was a shameless flirt who always had a wink ready! Becky was a wonderful sister, aunt and great-aunt and will always hold a very special place in our hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant brothers, Timothy and Kevin, sister Pamela Gardner of Brush, grandparents Jacob and Bertha Klein of Yuma and Henry and Helena Kahrs of Sterling and many other relatives and friends. She is survived by sisters Cynthia Kahrs of Wheatland, Deborah Kahrs of Otis, brothers Calvin and Jeffrey (Annette) Kahrs of Otis, nephews Andrew (Laura) Gardner of Akron, Matthew Gardner of Brush, Daniel (Karl Nelson) Gardner of Colorado Springs and Nicholas (Anthonya) Kahrs of Otis, niece Jennifer Kahrs of Windsor, great nephews and nieces Rebecca and Ethan Gardner of Akron and Waylon and Katelyn Kahrs of Otis and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation was on Sunday November 24 at Baucke Funeral Home in Yuma. Funeral service was held Tuesday, November 26, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yuma at 10:30 am with internment following at Yuma Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Yuma and the Kelandy Center in Yuma.
