The Otis High School baseball team is the No. 2 seed in the Class 1A 16-team regional field, and will host a four-team regional Saturday.

The Bulldogs, 17-2, won the District 3 Tournament, last Friday in Burlington, to secure the right to host one of the four regionals.

Otis will host 15th-seed Elbert, seventh-seed Dove Creek and 10th-seed Evangelical Christian. The Bulldogs will play Elbert in one semifinal, with Dove Creek and Evangelical Christian squaring off in the other. The winners will then meet In the regional final, with the winner advancing to the state semifinals, set for May 16 at All-Star Park in Lakewood.

The other district champions hosting regionals are top-seed Cornerstone Christian, fourth-seed Haxtun, and third-seed Nucla.

Otis first beat Idalia early last week (see last week’s Pioneer) to reach the final day of District 3 in Burlington. The Bulldogs, who were the top seed, played Stratton/Liberty in the first semifinal, cruising to a 10-0 win.

They scored all the runs they needed in the first inning with two. They broke out with four runs in the fourth, and added three in the fifth and the 10th run in the sixth. Cullen Glosson had a homer and a double, two RBI and two runs, Bryce Miracle two hits including a homer, two RBI and one run, Killian Hisam two hits including a triple, three RBI and one run, Christian Nation a triple and a double, and three runs, James Collins a triple, one RBI and one run, Tyler Reynolds a double, one RBI and one run, Isaac Wells one run, and Parker Davis one RBI.

Glosson pitched five innings, allowing just two hits while striking out nine and walking none. Miracle pitched one inning.

Granada beat Springfield in the other semifinal, setting up a championship game between Otis and the Bobcats.

Otis again jumped on top early with four runs in the first on their way to a 13-2 win in five innings.

Glosson had three hits, including a homer and a double, with three RBI and four runs, Miracle three hits including a homer, with two RBI and four runs, Hisam two hits, Ty Hunt one hit, one RBI and two runs, Wells one hit, Collins one run, Reynolds one hit, Nation one hit and one run, and Davis two RBI and one run.

Hunt pitched four innings, and Wells one.

Stratton/Liberty to Nucla

The Stratton/Liberty baseball team lost in the Class 1A District 3 semifinals last Friday in Burlington.

However, the Knighted Eagles season will continue as they have qualified for regional. They are the 14th seed in the 16-team field, with a 5-8 record, and will make the long trip to third-seed Nucla on Saturday. The other teams in the Nucla regional are sixth-seed Springfield and 11th-seed Longmont Christian.

The semifinal winners will meet for the regional championship, with the winner of that advancing to the 1A semifinals May 16 at All-Star Park in Lakewood. The other district champions hosting regionals on Saturday are top-seed Cornerstone Christian, second-seed Otis and fourth-seed Haxtun.

The Knighted Eagles lost 10-0 to top-seed Otis in last Friday’s district semifinal. The Bulldogs jumped on top with two runs in the first, and scored their 10th run in the sixth to get the game called.

Tyson Lichty, Jaret Lichty and Ethan Richmond accounted for Stratton/Liberty’s three hits. Richmond and J. Lichty pitched for the Knighted Eagles.
