It is finally here, Yuma High School’s inaugural YHS Holiday Tournament, Friday and Saturday.
Yuma’s basketball teams will be welcoming Eaton, Limon and Heritage Christian to town for the two-day tourney. Varsity and JV teams will be playing. All varsity games will be in The Pit, with the JV games in the Aux Pit.
It is an excellent field, also.
Three of the four team teams in the boys tournament are ranked — Eaton No. 8 in 3A, and Limon and Yuma No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in 2A. The Heritage Christian boys are not in the Top 10, but come to Yuma with a 3-1 record.
All four girls teams are in their respective top 10s — Eaton is No. 4 in 3A, Limon No. 2 in 2A, Heritage Christian No. 7 and Yuma No. 10.
YHS initially had scheduled the first Holiday Tournament for December 2020, but that was wiped out, for obvious reasons.
Games begin at 3 p.m. Friday.
In the varsity games, Eaton’s girls will play Limon at 3 p.m., the Eaton boys against Limon at 4:30, Yuma girls against Heritage Christian at 6, and Yuma boys vs. Heritage Christian at 7:30.
The first JV game has the Yuma boys playing Heritage Christian at 3 p.m., followed by the Yuma girls against Heritage Christian at 4:30, the Eaton boys against Limon at 6, and Eaton girls taking on Limon at 7:30.
On Saturday, the girls varsity third-place game is 1 p.m., followed by boys third-place game at 2:30, girls championship at 4, and boys championship at 5:30. In the JV bracket, the boys third-place game is at 1, followed by girls third-place game at 2:30, boys championship at 4, and girls championship at 5:30.
