Track and field season rolling along

It was a perfect early spring day for the 57th Yuma Bill Kalb Invitational, Monday.

Sunny skies, the temperature climbing into the mid-60s and very little wind was greatly appreciated by all.

A total of 25 schools and their fans converged on the Yuma Track Complex for a great day of competition.

The Yuma girls were led by four first-place efforts. Two were by Daphani Allen, who won the 200-meter dash in 27.03 seconds, and the long jump with a distance of 16-foot-8.75. Chloe Smith cleared 8-9 to win the pole vault. The 4-by-100 relay team of Smith, Carolina Ross, Layla Glanz and Allen placed first in 51.45 seconds.

Achtonn Monk was second in the 1600 in 2 minutes, 50.7 seconds, and third in the 3200 in 14:50.09. Kenya Arvizo was eighth in the 1600 in 7:00.74. Addison Armstrong took third in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.77 seconds, and Braylynn Armstrong seventh in the 300 hurdles in 52.57 seconds.

Jade Lungwitz took third in the triple jump at 33-7.25, and B. Armstrong was seventh in 31-8.

Back to the relays, the 4-by-400 team of Aubrey Black, Emory McClaran, Ross and Glanz placed third in 4:23.45, and the 4-by-200 foursome of Ross, Glanz, McClaran and Black was fifth in 1:52.72

Alan Flores paced the boys by placing second in the 800 in 2:07.91, and fourth in the 1600 in 5:09.35. Josiah Perez placed third in the 3200 in 12:58.65, and Anderson Habana sixth in 13:52.94.

Cannon Beaver cleared 5-8 for fourth in the high jump. Miles Rutledge whipped the discus 124-7 for fourth place. Jonathan Thomson placed sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 38-3.25.

The boys had three placing relays. The 4-by-200 team of Brodie Castillo, Noe Quezada, Jonathan Thomson and Flores placed third in 1:36.22. Castillo, Quezada, Thomson and Flores were fifth in the 4-by-400 relay in 3:42.05, and Miguel Carrasco, Adan Cortes, Esteban Gonzalez and Angel Ibarra placed fifth in the 4-by-800 in 10:24.89.

The Mixed 4-by-400 relay team of Agui Montes de Oca, Keylen Quezada, Izaiah Mosser and Sadee Mosenteen placed fifth in 4:18.32.

The Outlaws competed in the Fightin’ Reds Invitational last Saturday in Eaton.

The girls finished second in the team standings with 122.5 points. Eaton ran away with the team title with 194.5.

The 4-by-100 relay took first place in 51.94 seconds, and the 4-by-400 team also took first in 4:23.93. The 4-by-200 was second in 1:50.47.

Daphani Allen won the long jump with a distance of 16-5. Chloe Smith cleared 9-3 to win the pole vault, while Braylynn Armstrong placed second at 7-3, Addison Armstrong fourth at 6-3, and Kenya Arvizo seventh at 5-9. B. Armstrong was fifth in the triple jump at 31-3.75, Jade Lungwitz sixth at 31-3.5, and Taryn Mekelburg seventh at 29-10.25. Berkeley Nighswonger was sixth in the discus at 82-1, and Lindsey Hermosillo sixth in the shot put at 29-10.25.

A. Armstrong was third in the 300 hurdles in 52.97 seconds, and B. Armstrong fourth in 53.78. B. Armstrong was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 18.43 seconds, and A. Armstrong fifth in 18.55. Carolina Ross took fourth in the 200 in 28.63 seconds, Jade Lungwitz fifth in the 400 in 1:10.28, and Sadee Mosenteen sixth in 1:11.59. Dayana Villalobos placed seventh in the 800 in 3:23.14. Achtonn Monk was fifth in the 1600 in 6:48, and fifth in the 3200 in 14:35.96, while Arviso was sixth in 15:24.8.

The boys were fifth with 77.5 points. Eaton also won the boys team title with 145.

Dallas Brunk won the 110-meter hurdles in 18.38 seconds, and fifth in the 300 hurdles in 46.99. Alan Flores was third in the 800 in 2:08.94. Anderson Habana was seventh in the 3200 in 13:53.87.

The 4-by-100 relay was second in 45.87 seconds, the 4-by-400 second in 3:50.42, and the 4-by-200 third in 1:36.19.

Miles Rutledge swept the throws, winning the discus at 136-8 and the shot put with a heave of 43-5. Agui Montes de Oca was third in the pole vault at 9-3, and Manual Varela sixth at 8-3. Cannon Beaver cleared 5-4 for fifth in the high jump, and Noe Quezada long jumped 17-6 to place eighth.
