Yuma County resident Larry Wyant, a member of the Joes Fire Department, died in a fire Tuesday afternoon.
His funeral service will be Friday, November 5, at 1 p.m. at the Joes Fire Department.
A combine sparked a fire in the corn field by Highway 36 and County Road T in southern Yuma County.
The Joes Fire Department reported on its Facebook page, late Tuesday night, that crews were battling winds of 30 miles per hour, with gusts of 60 mph, along with the wind changing directions multiple times.
“It was the change in winds suddenly that led to fire fighter Larry Wyant to be taken by the running fire,” the Facebook post states. “Crews there there within minutes, however it was already too late.
“Our community is a group that comes together in a time of need. God bless all the volunteer firefighters who came to help stop a fire in such treacherous winds. Prayers are needed for Joes Fire Department at this time. Prayers to Larry Wyant’s family!”
Reportedly, Wyant and other members of the Joes Fire Department were on their way to Darcy Stallings’ funeral when they responded to the field fire.
