The Yuma County Softball team has played its way into the Class 3A regional for the second straight season.
YCS is the No. 30 seed in the 32-team field. The team travels to Greeley on Saturday to take on No. 3 University at 12:15 p.m. That game is preceded by No. 14 Alamosa taking on No. 19 Cedaredge. The winners will meet in the regional final at 2:30 p.m.
YCS, 9-13-1, won its last four games of the regular season to qualify for the postseason.
That included last Thursday’s sweep over Burlington in Wray.
The Yuma County girls won the first game 18-8. They built a 9-4 lead through the first two innings, then lead 14-6 after three. They posted two runs in the bottom of the fifth to get the 10-run rule win. Lauren Gdanitz had two hits with a double, two RBI and two runs scored, Autumn Maggard two hits with a double, one RBI and three runs, Gese Sanchez two hits, one RBI and one run, Clara Oestman two hits, one RBI and two runs, Ellie Oestman one hit and one RBI, Grace Jones two RBI and one run, Gabby Aguilar one RBI and three runs, Gemma Oestman three runs, and Priscylia White three runs. E. Oestman got the pitching win.
YCS finished the deal with a 17-8 win in the nightcap. However, the team trailed 8-6 after the top of the fourth, but then dominated after that with 11 unanswered runs in its last three at-bats.
C. Oestman had four hits with a triple, four RBI and four runs, Sanchez a triple and a double with two RBI, White three hits with a double and two RBI, Gdanitz two hits and three runs, Jones one hit and four runs, G. Aguilar two hits with a double, two RBI and one run, E. Oestman two this, one RBI and three runs, G. Oestman one hit and two runs. White got the pitching win.
