Yuma County Softball will be in the Brush Tournament on Friday and Saturday after playing its first home games earlier this week.
YCS hosted Chase County, Nebraska, in Yuma after claiming a big 14-2 win at Platte Valley last Thursday. It improved YCS’s record to 2-7 overall. The team ran its winning streak to three by sweeping both ends of the doubleheader with Chase County.
YCS plays Timnath and Florence on Friday at the Brush Tournament, then go back to take on Sterling and Platte Valley on Saturday.
Yuma County scored three runs in the first inning at Kersey, last Thursday. The local girls plated two more for a 5-1 lead in the third. They then put it away with a nine-run outburst in the fifth, then held Platte Valley to one run in the bottom half for their first 10-run rule win of the season.
Individual statistics for YCS were not available, but the team did have 10 hits and struck out just five times. Platte Valley had just three hits and committed seven errors.
YCS improved to 4-7 overall with its sweep of the Longhorns, building some momentum heading into the Brush Tournament. YHS students on the team are Erin Allen, Jordan Glanz, Ellie Oestman, Gema Oestman, Clara Oestman, Hannah Newton and Gese Sanchez.
