YHS graduation is Sunday

The Yuma community will celebrate the Yuma High School Class of 2024 at its commencement ceremony Sunday.

Graduation will be held in The Pit at 1 p.m. The doors will open at 12 noon.

The 2024 Class has chosen Yuma Middle School teacher Josh Rahe as the guest speaker. Also delivering a speech will be class member Dalton Peil

Those graduating with High Distinction (3.8 and above grade point average) are Ana Alarcon Palacios, Erin Allen, Pablo Becerra, Anna Chapman, Jordan Glanz, Maria Horn, Jaslin Olivas Varela, Denton Peil and Caddis Robinson. Graduating with Honors (3.5 to 3.79 GPA) are Nathan Crossland, Heidi Gardner, Tera Leifheit, Jailyn Mekelburg, Emma Rayl, Zuseth Rodriguez Varela, Kensie Serl, Mallely Valenzuela Quezada and Isabella Young.

The weather is supposed to be very nice on Sunday for graduation, with a forecasted high of 84 degrees as of earlier this week. However, that no longer means uncomfortable conditions inside The Pit as the venerable gymnasium now has air conditioning.
