Yuma High School’s girls JV basketball team returned from the holiday break with a pair of home wins, last weekend.
The Indians claimed a 37-12 win last Friday against Haxtun. Jazmin Sotelo had 10 points, Hailey Eyring eight points and three steals, Alina Moran eight points and three steals, Liddy Day six points, Braylynn Armstrong two points and two rebounds, Lyndsey Mekelburg two points, Elizabeth Mendoza one point and four rebounds, and Wendy Garcia three rebounds.
Yuma hosted Holyoke on Saturday for a two-quarter game, winning 26-11. Sotelo had six points and three rebounds, Armstrong six points and two rebounds, Moran six points and three rebounds, Eyring four points, Day four points and Garcia three rebounds.
JV boys cruise
Yuma High School’s JV boys basketball team cruised to a couple of home wins last weekend.
The Indians returned from the Christmas break last Friday with a 73-28 win over Haxtun. Daman Hernandez had 14 points, Jake Haruf 13, Cesar Varela 12, Silas Baucke 10, Angel Escobar nine, Cesar Gamboa five, Damien Kosinski four, Keven Orona three and Jonathan Thomson three.
Yuma then hosted Holyoke on Saturday, cruising to a 76-20 win. Haruf had 18 points, Gamboa 12, Hernandez eight, Jonathan Carrillo six, Varela six, Escobar six, Edwin Munoz five, Baucke five, Kosinski five, Brodie Castillo four, and Orona one.
C-Team boys sweep Holyoke
Yuma High School’s boys C-team returned from the holidays with a 42-21 win over Holyoke, last Saturday.
Edwin Munoz had 14 points, Brodie Castillo eight, Eric Wario six, Damien Kosinski four, Carlos Wario three, Kevin Orona three, Miles Rutledge two, and Will Noble two.
The C-team hosted Holyoke again Monday evening, winning 52-25. Full scoring was not available, but it is known Eric Wario made seven of nine behind the 3-point arc.
C-Team girls split
Yuma High School’s girls C-team split its first two games of 2022.
Yuma hosted Haxtun last Friday, winning in overtime 12-8. Wendy Garcia had four points, Elizabeth Mendoza four, Jordan Glanz two and Myka McDonald two.
The C-team traveled to Caliche on Monday, losing 23-17. Mendoza had seven points, Glanz four, Braylynn Armstrong four, and Garcia two.
