YHS track got early start

Yuma High School’s track and field teams should be at full strength by the time they host the Yuma Early Qualifier on Monday.

The Outlaws opened the season last Saturday in the Murray Kula Invitational at Windsor High School. They are at the Runners Roost of Fort Collins, Saturday at Rocky Mountain High School, before hosting the Early Qualifier.

The Yuma teams were shorthanded in last Saturday’s season opener as girls and boys basketball seasons had just concluded. Plus, it a big season-opening meet in Windsor with more than 30 schools participating, including many 4A and 5A schools.

Niwot won the girls team title with 86 points, and Grandview won the boys with 80.

The end result is Yuma had just one placer, senior Chloe Smith scoring four points by placing fifth in the girls pole vault, clearing 9-foot-0.

Others who competed for the Yuma girls were Daphani Allen, Yaretsi Marquez, Dayna Arteaga, Emory McClaran, Achtonn Monk, Emily Zuniga, Braylynn Armstrong, and Addison Armstrong.

Competing for the boys were Agui Montes de Oca, Izaiah Mosser, Yandel Solano, Rafael Rodriguez, Jadiel Diaz, Adan Cortes, Josiah Perez, Anderson Habana, and Bobby Horn.
