The Yuma Middle School wrestling team has enjoyed a solid start to its season.
The young Indians opened earlier this month with a dual against Burlington, featuring 19 matches. Winning for Yuma were Felipe Carranza, David Covarrubias, Jayden Baquera, Aiden Chadwick, Brayden Baquera, Tyson Hansen and Reyli Trejo.
YMS wrestlers then went to the 10-school Wray Bash. Each grappler wrestled three kids near their weight and ability level. YMS had the highest winning percentage with a 33-14 record. Wrestler of the Night awards went to Covarrubias, B. Bauquera and Cooper Blach. All went 3-0, as did J. Baquera, Dallas Brunk, Marvin Martinez and Trejo. Daden Beauprez went 2-0. Chadwick, Esteban Gonzalez, and Tyson Hansen each went 2-1, and Agustin Montes de Oca, Christian Thomson, Tanner Himes and Gese Sanchez each won one match.

The A-team results were not available against Sedgwick County.
The B-team won at Sedgwick County, 32-4. Taryn Sheffield had 14 points, six steals, three rebounds and three assists, Aubrey Black six points, eight steals, three rebounds and two assists, Layla Glanz four points, five rebounds and three steals, Achtonn Neill-??? four points and five rebounds, Danika Dischner four points, four rebounds and three steals, Ellie Oestman two rebounds, Addie Baucke two rebounds, and Kenya Arvizo one rebound.
The C-team lost 24-5 to Sedgwick County. Kena Serl had two points, four rebounds and four steals, Baucke two points and three steals, Haley Smith one point and two rebounds, Oestman four rebounds and eight steals, Jacquie Gonzalez two rebounds and two steals, Clara Oestman five rebounds, Gemma Oestman two steals, Avery Langley two rebounds, and Dischner three rebounds.
The YMS girls played four games against Brush.

Sheffield had 15 points, five rebounds and seven steals, Blach five points, four steals and three assists, Baucke four points and five rebounds, Glanz two points and five rebounds, Neill two oints and three rebounds, Addison Armstrong one point and four rebounds, Dischner three rebounds and three steals, and Arvizo three rebounds and two steals.
The C-team lost 15-12. Baucke had six points, three rebounds and three steals, Glanz two points and two rebounds, Serl two points and three rebounds, Dischner two points, three rebounds and three steals, Armstrong eight rebounds and seven steals, E. Oestman six steals, Lindsey Hermosillo two steals, Gonzalez two rebounds and two steals, and C. Oestman three steals.
The D-team won 24-6. Serl had six points and 10 rebounds, Gonzalez six ;oints and two steals, Hermosillo six points and three steals, Gemma Oestman four points, three rebounds and three steals, E. Oestman two points and five steals, C. Oestman three rebounds and three steals, Langley two rebounds and three steals, and Smith two steals.
