Yuma County Softball will be looking to add to its win total Saturday.
The Yuma-Wray co-op team will be hosting Wiley for a doubleheader, in Wray beginning at 11 a.m., after it earned its first win last weekend at the Platte Valley Classic. YCF is 1-5 entering Saturday’s double dip.
It opened tournament action last Friday with a 7-1 win over Valley. The game was scoreless until YCF pushed across three runs in the top of the third, followed by three more in the fourth. Both teams plated one run in the sixth.
Sharon Greek had two hits with three RBI and scored one run, Addi Jones one hit and two runs, Alysha Yanez one RBI, Faith Ridnour one hit, Jazmine Sotelo one run, Jordan Glanz one hit and one run, and Makynna DeLand two runs. Larissa Salmans got the pitching win, allowing one hit while striking out eight and walking three.
YCF played Alamosa later in the day, losing 9-5. The team led 3-1 after the first inning, but Alamosa broke it open with six runs in the second. YCF added two runs in the third to trail 7-5, but the Mean Moose tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth.
Jones had two hits, one RBI and one run, Elli Oestman two hits and one RBI, Ridnour one run, Glanz one hit and one RBI, Salmans one hit, DeLand one hit, one RBI and two runs, and Greek one run. Sotelo took the pitching loss.
YCF was back on the field Saturday, first losing 6-2 to The Academy. YCF trailed 5-0 before finally getting a run in the bottom of the fifth, and adding one more in the sixth. Sotelo had one hit, Ridnour one hit and one run, Greek one hit and one run, and DeLand one hit. Salmans took the pitching loss.
Tournament play concluded later in the day with a 4-0 loss to Holyoke. YCF actually outhit the Dragons, 5-3, but committed four fielding errors. Greek had two hits, Salmans and DeLand each had a double, and Oestman had a hit. Salmans took the pitching loss despite striking out 10 and walking three, yielding three hits over five innings.
