Yuma County softball is going to be a cooperative venture for the 2022 season.
Yuma and Wray high schools have entered a co-op agreement so the girls from each school can have a season. Yuma had 11 girls wanting to play softball, but no coaches, and Wray have eight interested and a head coach on board in Savanna Vlasin. YHS has hired Jazmine Diaz to help with the coaching.
The team will be called Yuma County Softball. The team will wear basic gray uniforms that both schools helped purchase. Wray’s softball schedule will be used.
As for home games, they will be split between Wray and Yuma.
Practices began earlier this week, and Yuma County opens its season Friday, August 12, in Wray against Rocky Ford. It will be a varsity/JV doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The team will be home again in Wray on Tuesday, August 16, for another varsity/JV doubleheader against Lamar beginning at 3:30 p.m.
