Yuma High School’s track and field teams keep piling up winning performances as the end of April nears.
The Outlaws are at the Haxtun Relays, held in Holyoke, on Friday, after a strong showing in the Broncos Stampede last Saturday at Platte Valley in Kersey.
Yuma’s girls won the team title with 107 points. Platte Valley was second with 96, and Wray third with 90.
Yuma’s boys finished third with 79.5 points, behind Holyoke with 107 and Greeley West with 86.
“The season so far is going well, thanks to the weather being better than the past few seasons, knock on wood,” head coach Lucas Lubbers said. “Both teams, I think, are starting to realize the potential they have and are starting to really lock in the second half of the season.”
The girls were paced by several winning individual efforts.
Chloe Smith cleared 9-foot-4 to win the pole vault. Daphani Allen won the long jump with a distance of 15-5, and won the 100-meter dash in 13.38 seconds. Layla Glanz won the 200 in 28.2 seconds.
Allen was second in the 400 in 1:02.61, Glanz fourth in 1:03.48, and Emory Mcclaran seventh in 1:06.81. Glanz was third in the 100 in 13.5 seconds, and Carolina Ross sixth in the 200 in 29.16 seconds. Braylynn Armstrong was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.97 seconds, and sixth in the 300 hurdles in 53.38 seconds. Achtonn Monk placed seventh in the 1600 in 6:17.18, and eighth in the 800 in 2:52.05.

Aubrey Black was third in the long jump at 13-11.5. Armstrong was third in the triple jump with a distance of 30-11.5, and Taryn Mekelburg was sixth at 29-7.5. Armstrong was seventh in the pole vault at 6-10, and Addison Armstrong was eighth at the same height.
The 4-by-100 relay team of Blach, Mcclaran, Keylen Quezada and Sadee Mosenteen was second in 54.63 seconds. The 4-by-400 foursome of Quezada, Black, Smith and A. Armstrong was fourth in 4:32.42. Smith, Black, Quezada and A. Armstrong were fifth in the 4-by-200 in 1:55.94.
Yuma’s boys also had some first-place performances.
Alan Flores won the 800 in 2:07.07. Jonathan Thomson won the triple jump with a distance of 39-3.5. The 4-by-100 relay team of Brodie Castillo, Iann Duran, Thomson and Flores took first with a time of 45.65 seconds.
Cannon Beaver cleared 5-9 for third in the high jump, and also was third in the triple jump with a distance of 37-0.25. Miles Rutledge whipped the discus 139-10 for second, and put the shot 41-3.5 for third. Manuel Varela cleared 8-10 for fourth in the pole vault.
Iann Duran ran the 100 in 11.9 seconds for seventh. Thomson was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.96 seconds, and Dallas Brunk was sixth in the 300 hurdles in 47 seconds. Anderson Habana was eighth in the 3200 in 13:26.88.
The 4-by-400 relay team of Yandel Solano, Noe Quezada, Varela and Angel Ibarra was third in 3:57.74. The 4-by-200 team of Solano, Ibarra, Varela and Quezada was sixth in 1:40.66. Adan Cortes, Miguel Carrasco, Habana and Dylan Patricio were eighth in the 4-by-800 in 11:21.64.
